Step 1: Drag and drop the Target data store in to target section of your newly created interface

Step 2: Drag and drop all the source Data stores (Select Yes to Auto Mapping of columns, when system prompts. You can map manually also)

Step 3: Join all Sources

Step 4: Create any filters (Not Mandatory, but i created in this example to reduce load)

Interface is ready to execute. Just click on Execute and you can monitor it in Operator window.

This is one simple example to show how ODI made an ELT developer’s life made simple and efficient. I will keep posting more of my learning’s.

Data flow in bi-directional way is a routine activity for any application to feed/ fetch the data to fulfill the business needs. Specifically in Siebel developers create many online/ offline interfaces to allow data transfer in and out to Siebel.

The most common paths that picked up by developers are,

1. Enterprise Integration Manager

2. Online Interfaces using Workflow

3. Business Services

4. COM, etc

All above mentioned paths have advantages and disadvantages based on various criteria.

1. Enterprise Integration Manager

• Only be used for bulk data import/ Export
• Only Administrator or support person can import the data, End user can’t import the data
• Involves Huge Development efforts

2. Online Interface Using Workflow

• Involves more customization and deployment efforts
• Many performance Considerations

3. Business Service

• Involves huge amount of programming efforts
• Performance Considerations
• Upgrade Considerations

4. COM

• Is the most common path picked up if End users need to import the data in to Siebel, using Excel, Access or any other application
• Involves Huge development effort
• Poor Performance

Proposed Solution

Apart from the paths mentioned above, Siebel provided another path called “Import” option, which offers a solution without scripting. Using Import option, End user can import the data in to Siebel in a very simple way. They just can import the data by selecting Import menu option and inputting the data in the form of Text, CSV or any other format.

They just need to prepare the text or CSV file with the column headers looking at the field captions in Siebel screen which they want to import.

1. User logs in to Siebel application

2. User Navigates to Siebel screen in to which he wants import the data

3. User Note down the field names

4. User creates a text or CSV file using the field names as headers along with the data

5. User select Import menu option

6. Browse the file name, select Auto Mapping option and click Next button

7. Click Next button

8. User would see a popup with Import Status, Number of Rows imported, and few other details.

9. User would be able to see the newly imported records

Solution Benefit

1. No need Scripting
2. End User would be provided with a handy process to bring data into Siebel, instead of relying on support team
3. Easy to implement and low development efforts

Implementation Procedure

Before implementing this, if user navigates to Opportunity screen -> Opportunity List -> Menu -> Import option would appear as disabled. After implementing this, menu option would be enabled.

1. Select Import Object Option in Siebel Tools
2. Crete a new record and enter the Business Component Name Opportunity
3. Enter the Import Fields
4. Enter the Import Key fields
5. Compile the objects

When Google allowed sending emails in other then English, I made a little R&D to find the function/ API it is calling.

It is as simple as you type telugu words in English like “emiti samgatulu?” today during chat. This piece of code converts and shows in telugu instead of English like “ఏమిటి సంగతులు?"

Google Transliteration offers an option for converting English characters to the characters used in Telugu/ any other language. This lets you type Telugu words phonetically in English script and then have them appear in Telugu.

Open GMail, yahoo mail, any other web based application and paste the below code in browser where you type URL. Wait till you get the message “Transliteration is enabled. To disable, click on the bookmarklet”. Now whatever you type, it will be converted in to telugu script.

Another simple way is, paste this in browser and save it as a book mark. Open your web application and go bookmarks and click on it, the API code will be activated.

1. Open your mail/ chat application
2. Copy the script given below and paste in your browser
3. Retype the last two single quotes
4. Press Enter key or click on Go button
5. wait for few seconds
6. click on any text area where you want type the telugu text
7. you will be able to see telugu letter

If you want to chat in telugu, use chat in gmail, yahoo mail, instead of messenger. I couldn’t figure out how to embed this API call in messenger.

You can use the above code for any language by changing the language code at the end of the script from ‘te’.

Below mentioned are the corresponding lists of codes for each language. You can find the other language codes from Google site.

Hindi: hi

Kannada: kn

Malayalam: ml

Tamil: ta

Telugu: te

You can use Ctrl+g to activate, inactivate this features, so that you can type english words between telugu words like"ఈ రోజు ఉదయం market కి వెళ్ళాను."

Hope you would benifit from this. Google keeps adding support for more languages.  So, if your language is not available today, may in near future it would.

Siebel supplies a set of license keys every quarter at oracle website. Once you add these keys to your Siebel database, you would be allowed to work on Siebel with sample data with out changing the system date. You can add license keys to your Siebel sample database by clicking Siebel Tools -> Help -> Technical Support -> License Key -> Add Key

But, Siebel Inactivates the License Key button for Siebel Sample Application.

This trick tells you how add license keys to Siebel Sample Database.

Open Siebel Tools -> Help -> Press the shift key and click on License Key.

Now you can observe the License Key button is activated. You can copy the license keys from oracle website and add them to your Siebel Sample application. Once you successfully added the keys you don’t need to change the system date to back date.

After 3 months (the date specified in oracle website) if you get the message “License expires” again go to oracle website, get the new keys and add them to your Siebel sample application.

Google Maps is a web mapping service application and technology provided by Google, free (for non-commercial use), that powers many map-based services, which offers street maps, a route planner for traveling by foot, car, or public transport and an urban business locator for numerous countries around the world. 

Siebel users would have frequent travel to meet their customers, partners, dealers, etc on their day-to-day business. Now a day’s most of the people are using Google Maps or other service similar to that for their route map to customer location. This is a simple step towards integrating Siebel with Google Maps, so that user can get the route map with just one single click, avoiding manual activities.

Business Need

Imagine a case of automotive industry, when a customer wants to give his vehicle for servicing or want to check the new models, prices, etc, Customer can use the Siebel Dealer Locator utility to find the list of dealers located near by region to him with the details of the dealer. With this customer can contact the dealer/ service provider and would get served.

But what happens, if the customer is new to the city or not clear how to locate/ reach the address?

In the case of sales, the marketing people get leads from various sources and they need to follow-up them to get them converted to opportunities. For this marketing people would need to travel to customer location.

In the case of service, the executive may need to reach a customer for service or collecting RMAs.

In all the above case, usually people uses Google maps to find the route map. They opens the browser, Google maps portal and then enters destination address collecting from Siebel.

How about if, the Siebel is integrated with Google Maps and the user is able to get the directions with just one click of mouse?

This is document describes how Siebel can be integrated with Google maps to get directions to reach customer place. Siebel takes logged in user address as source and selected customer/ dealer/ company address as destination. 

Assumptions

• The solution is built on Siebel 8.0, but works with other versions also
• User should have the access to internet and Google maps site
• Map/ directions accuracy would depend on the quality/accuracy provided by Google

Siebel Functional requirements

The following section defines the required steps users must perform to use the custom feature as designed:

1. User should setup his address details correctly under contacts à Address screen
   1. Query for logged in user’s contact record using Last Name, First Name, etc in top form applet
   2. In the bottom form applet create/ update primary address with correct data.
2. User should enter complete address details for the selected entity (Accounts/ contacts/ Dealers, etc)

Proposed Solution

1. User selects the customer/ contact/ dealer/ partner record in respective screen
2. User clicks on icon in directions field

(Or)

 User clicks on Google Map View tab

1. Siebel shows route map/ directions to selected customer/ contact, etc address from user’s address
2. User can change the commutation choice to car/ Walk/ Public Transport to get the route map/ directions accordingly.
